During the early days of the pandemic, I had the immense honor and pleasure of engaging with a creative writing workshop hosted by a group of creatives based out of Burlington, Vermont. I felt inspired to try to capture in poetic rhyming scheme and rhythmic words this compelling idea of embracing my multifaceted identity.

So without further ado, here is my humble attempt:

They try to assign me one enduring identity
To encompass my being's whole composite entity
To define my intricacies through simplicity
To maintain overall status-quo tranquility
They say my sum adds up to only one place
They say that I am what one label says
Yet that’s something I'll surely surpass

But, I am so much more
I cannot be confined to one category's bin
My ambitions dare defy all written glory's spin
My tendencies disrupt statistical normalities
My abilities disperse over vibrant varieties
My treasured talents teeming wide as galaxies

Therefore, I am who I am because I can, this entity
Indeed, I am a man of culture, society, and luxury
Indeed, I am a man of science, technology, capacity

Born into this wondrous world of lost souls
Nurtured into this pious state of one role
Thus, I must seek to expand upon whom I rule
Must define myself surpassing the highest crown
Must dare endeavor to explore newest milestones
Must deliver to invent next innovative industry
I must know that I am more than one identity

Beauty in the eye of the unlimited creator
My limits are my guidelines for great splendor

I paint stories difficult to express
I fold paper to profess profoundness
I write endless essays to convey what I cherish
I share generational stories never to perish
I sing songs to seek a shining sliver of serenity
I know I myself am a elegant beautiful complexity
I must never stop calculating infinite opportunities
I must know that I have countless possibilities
I cannot be defined by just one ludicrous label
I am more because I believe in what I am able
