UMass Chan Medical School is consistently ranked in the top 10 percent of U.S. medical schools and schools of osteopathic medicine for excellence in primary care education by weekly news magazine U.S. News & World Report in its annual review “America’s Best Graduate Schools.”
Beyond its core mission of distinction in medical education, the past decade has seen UMass Chan Medical School explode onto the national scene as a major center for research. The institution also ranks near the top among public medical schools in the northeast in funding awarded by the National Institutes of Health, with $204 million in NIH funding in FY 2023. Federal and private research grants and contracts at UMass Chan rose from about $2 million in 1977 to more than $322 million in FY 2023, making it one of the fastest growing research institutions in the United States.
UMass Chan, home to more than 6,000 employees, was named to The Boston Globe’s 2023 list of Top Places to Work in Massachusetts, based on results of an employee survey.
