What happens to my remains when the studies are complete?

At the conclusion of studies, which may be up to three years after death, UMass Chan Medical School will be responsible for final disposition according to the donor’s election on the Instrument of Anatomical Gift. If the donor chooses for their remains to be returned to their next-of-kin UMass will notify the executor or next-of-kin for instructions regarding the disposition of the remains. If UMass is not able to carry out the instructions for any reason (including but not limited to the Executor’s and/or next-of-kin’s refusal to accept the remains), UMass Chan will arrange for my body to be cremated, and buried at the expense of UMass in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, in a UMass Chan Medical School registered grave.
