Inpatient Family Medicine Acting Internships

Welcome to the Family Medicine Acting Internship experience at the UMass Chan Medical School!

Course Number: FC 400

Objectives for our Acting Internships include:

- exposure to highly-varied, acute medical illnesses in a diverse population
- the opportunity to function at the intern level with close resident and/or attending supervision
- writing orders, admitting patients, creating discharge plans, presentations during rounds and morning report, overnight in-house call and/or nightfloat responsibilities
- refinement of your data gathering/history taking ability
- development of your ability to create assessments and plans independently
- participation in our daily inpatient didactic sessions
- completion of an inpatient-related project

We offer two distinct experiences for FC-400:

Family Medicine Inpatient Service Acting Internship

In this track, you will function as an intern and will be paired with a senior resident. Your schedule is identical to the interns who will be rotating with you that block and your responsibilities and expectations are the same. This is an intense but fruitful opportunity to prepare yourself for intern year in any residency program.

Family Medicine Hospitalist Acting Internship

This is a unique acting internship opportunity to work one on one with our hospitalist faculty. You will not be part of the residency team directly and will not work under the direction of a senior resident.

With questions or more information about our acting internships, contact: Michael Smith, MS at Michael.Smith@umassmemorial.org or 508-334-8023.
