All invited to attend the Breaking Bias Series: Intersectional Discrimination in STEM and Medicine fields. Presented by guest speaker, Dr. Asia A. Eaton is a feminist social psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychology at Florida International University (FIU), where she directs the Power, Women, and Relationships (PWR) Lab. The PWR Lab explores how gender intersects with identities such as race, sexual orientation, and class to affect individuals access to and experience with power. In our quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods work, we engage social and cultural psychological theories and methods to address real-world social problems in collaboration with local, state and national organizations and institutions. Her research has been featured in outlets like the New York Times, Forbes, Science Magazine, and BBC News and resulted in invited talks at Facebook, the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the U.S. Marines Corp Headquarters, and universities around the nation. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in Divisions 9 and 35, and Program Director of the new Ph.D. track in Applied Social and Cultural Psychology at FIU.

Join to learn about the research of Nathaniel G. Harnett, PhD, Assistant Neuroscientist, Neurobiology of Fear Laboratory, McLean Hospital, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Harnett’s new study has found that early childhood stress from racism, poverty, and other traumatic events can change children’s developing brains. Learn how understanding this brain science can help us prevent trauma and stress-related disorders.
