Oyinbo, PhD candidate in Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences, will present the talk “Acculturation Research Methodology Applied in the Study of African Diaspora Health: A Brief Review,” in which will discuss how acculturation research is conducted in the African diaspora and can be applied to Black migrant populations at large.

In this interactive virtual workshop, participants will explore how unconscious bias impacts relationships, decision making and experiences. By the end of the workshop, participants will identify strategies to mitigate biases in their interactions, increase self-awareness, and foster inclusive practices at UMass Chan.

“Rustin” tells the story of the charismatic, gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. Against incredible odds, he managed to organize the March on Washington in 1963. Rustin, advisor to Martin Luther King Jr., dedicated his life to the quest for racial equality, human rights and worldwide democracy. However, as an openly gay Black man, he is all but erased from the history of the civil rights movement he helped build.
