Advocacy Subcommittee Initiatives

2026: Advancing Advocacy Together

Beginning in 2026, the subcommittee is launching Advancing Advocacy Together, a multi‑pronged initiative designed to equip every member of the UMass Chan community to become a confident, capable advocate—whether for a patient, a peer, a policy, or a broader issue impacting equity and belonging. This initiative includes partnerships with the Mass Public Health Alliance and support for the All In Democracy Challenge, promoting nonpartisan civic learning, voter participation, and engagement in our democracy.

2025: Strengthening Advocacy Infrastructure

In response to evolving administrative policies and the need for clearer pathways of support, the subcommittee expanded and refined the Home - Advocacy Resources - Resource Guides at University of Massachusetts Medical School    This updated guide helps community members navigate changing systems, connect with the right offices, and access tools and information to direct their advocacy efforts effectively.

2024: Advancing Belonging Through Community Arts

  • UMass Chan Community Arts Exhibit Pilot: Advancing Belonging Together  UMass Chan community invited to ponder meaning of ‘advancing together’ at art exhibit  To celebrate UMass Chan’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the subcommittee curated artwork from faculty, learners, and staff that reflected belonging and community. After screening and vetting submissions, the inaugural exhibit was displayed in the Lamar Soutter Library.

2023–2024: Strengthening Reporting Pathways

During this period, the subcommittee clarified institutional reporting responsibilities to ensure transparency, accountability, and appropriate support. Key outcomes included:
