Endowments

Endowments at UMass Chan Medical School provide permanent support dedicated to scientific discovery and teaching. In doing so, they help to enhance existing programs or support promising new programs that might otherwise go unfunded.

Endowments are also powerful in attracting and retaining the most talented and sought-after researchers, physicians and educators, which in turn helps to attract the brightest and most accomplished students.

For the donor, establishing an endowment creates a lasting connection to the person for whom the endowment is named, and to the continuing achievements of the program that it supports.

Endowments are held permanently by the University of Massachusetts Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation overseen by a Board of Directors. The Foundation is responsible for managing, investing and administering all endowments.

At UMass Chan Medical School, we offer several types of endowed funding options:

  • Faculty Chair: $1.5 million
  • Graduate Fellowships: $250,000 (full) and $100,000 (partial)
  • Scholarship: $25,000

Donors may create an endowed fund now through an outright gift, or in the future through a bequest or life income gift, such as a charitable remainder trust.
