Our community of scholars, educators and learners strive to promote human dignity in all our endeavors. We strive to interact with difference around and among us with respect, kindness and trust. We believe in compassion and integrity. We hope that all our relationships are strengthened through our desires and actions to fully recognize, understand and make use of the contributions of others. We value excellence and strive to build our community so that all individuals and groups can reach their highest potential.

    Student Spotlight

Melanie pivoted from teaching ballet and working as a per-diem secretary at Heywood Hospital in Gardner to enrolling in the Graduate Entry Pathway (GEP) program in the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing at UMass Chan Medical School.

As she got to know her secretarial position and the health care setting, she became more interested in what she could do on the other side of the desk. She found nursing compelling because it challenges her to think critically about everything she does.  She is excited to join the profession and wants to become a nurse practitioner in an intensive care unit.

    Student Spotlight

As an ICU nurse working through the most challenging pandemic peak, I realized how nursing philosophy could interplay with bedside nursing. I surprised myself with how specific nursing theories and philosophies connect with better patient outcomes. The Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing faculty's wealth of knowledge is outstanding and will support/guide students in their area of research interests to obtain a student’s goal of a PhD.
