How to set up FAQs

FAQ pages are created within an FAQ container and can be displayed as a list using the FAQ listing block.

Example simple list Example TOC, Grouped, 2 columns

The FAQ container is located under the Global Components container in your website. Since FAQ pages are not web pages themselves, just snippets of content that make up a list, they are kept within this container.

Create the FAQ pages

  • Navigate to the Global Components container within your website.
    •  An FAQ container should already exist, it may be labled as FAQ or FAQ Container,
      if not, click on the "..." for the Global Components folder and choose New Page and select "FAQ Group Container"
      if you run into any issues, submit a ticket to the CMS team.
  • Click the "..." on the FAQ Group Container and choose add new page
    • choose FAQ Group Container or FAQ Page
      • FAQ Group Container - to organize multiple lists of FAQ pages to use on different pages or to list on one page as grouped lists
        • you can name and publish
      • FAQ page - create an FAQ that will get listed on the page
        • Provide the Question
          • this is the title that will show and will be clickable in the FAQ list
        • Provide the Answer 
          • the content that will display when the question/title is clicked
  • Once the FAQ page is created, edit it if needed
    • the Answer property is a WYSIWYG area
    • There is a dropblock area to add blocks as well
    • publish the page

Create the list (FAQ Listing Block)

The FAQ listing block will point to your FAQ group container and list all the FAQs within.

  • Create a new block in the block tree (right pane) or directly on a page
  • Choose "FAQ Listing Block"
  • Fill in the Required property: FAQ Folder
    • Either drag and drop your FAQ Group Container in this area, or click on Select Page and navaite to your FAQ Group Container
    • you can ignore the other properties, we will fill those in within the next steps
  • Click the Create button
  • Edit your new block
  • Make sure to go to All Properties view
  • On the Listing Settings tab
    • Title - will display a heading at the top of your block
    • Number of Columns - change this if you want to display the list in more than 1 column
    • Show TOC bookmark list - this is used when you have choosen to group FAQs and will display a list of links horizontally at the top of the block of each group
      • EX: https://www.umassmed.edu/zzz/example-site/faqs/faq-listing-blocks/
    • Show TOC bookmark list as Vertical
      • list will show vertically stacked
    • Sort By
      • note: Sort Index follows the order in the content tree
    • Sort Order
    • Filter By Category
      • you can have all of your FAQs in one group container and choose to assign categories which you can use this filter to only display the ones tagged 
  • Publish your updates
  • Add this block to one or more pages and publish the page(s)
    • you can preview the page before publishing to ensure the list displays the way you wish

How do I edit an existing FAQ? I can't find where they are located!

Sometimes you may take over a website where a page already has existing FAQs and you are not sure how to find their location in the content tree to update them.

One way to find their location is:
