Juli Buchwald received her BS in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 2017. Before joining the MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program at UMass Chan in 2018, she received a Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award to study at the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Juli’s thesis aims to develop novel siRNA-based therapeutics for the treatment of heart, lung, and liver ischemia-reperfusion injury for use in the organ preservation and transplantation process. She is an aspiring cardiothoracic transplant surgeon-scientist, inspired by her time at the University of Pittsburgh, at UMass Chan, and at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she works in collaboration with leading surgeon-scientists in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Outside of the lab, Juli can be found kayaking, reading, and hiking.
